Terms of Service

These Terms of Service form an agreement between you and Aliencat Software, operator of FileVoyage. They apply when you visit filevoyage.com, create an account, upload or download a file, use a link, or purchase a plan or add-on. By using FileVoyage, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Plain-language summary

FileVoyage is a file-transfer service, not a permanent backup. Upload only content you have the right to share, protect every link as an access credential, and keep your own copy. Limits and prices shown before purchase or upload are part of your transaction. This summary does not replace the complete Terms below.

1. Eligibility and accounts

You must be able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction. If you use FileVoyage for an organization, you represent that you are authorized to bind it. You are responsible for accurate account information, your credentials, activity under your account, and promptly notifying us of suspected unauthorized access. Guest use does not create an account and may be identified through an essential session cookie for quota and abuse controls.

2. How the service works

FileVoyage lets a sender upload a file and create a link with a selected availability period and download-authorization limit. Availability starts after the upload completes and FileVoyage verifies the file. A QR code is another representation of the same link; it does not add authentication or encryption.

A download is counted when FileVoyage issues a temporary signed authorization, even if the recipient does not finish downloading. An issued authorization may be reused until it expires, and a recipient may save or reshare a downloaded copy. Accordingly, FileVoyage cannot guarantee an exact number of completed reads or prevent copying outside the service.

3. Your content and permissions

You retain ownership of your content. You grant FileVoyage and its infrastructure providers a limited, non-exclusive license to host, copy, transmit, scan, restrict, and delete the content only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, support, and enforce the service or comply with law. You represent that you have all rights and permissions needed to upload and share the content and to process any personal data it contains.

4. Prohibited use

You may not use FileVoyage to upload, store, request, or distribute unlawful, infringing, fraudulent, abusive, deceptive, or malicious content; sexual exploitation material; malware or code intended to damage or gain unauthorized access; content that violates privacy or confidentiality rights; or content whose possession or transfer is prohibited. You may not probe security, evade quotas or rate limits, automate abusive traffic, impersonate another person, interfere with the service, or use links for spam or phishing.

5. Plans, limits, credits, and passes

Each plan has limits for delivery capacity, active storage, link duration, downloads, seats, and other features shown on the plans page or at checkout. Delivery capacity may be reserved as file size multiplied by authorized downloads. Active storage and delivery capacity are different limits. We may prevent a transfer that exceeds the applicable limit or require an account, plan, credit balance, or pass.

One-time add-ons require an account so they can be recorded. Delivery credits add a reusable GB balance. Duration and download passes are stored as quantities; each unit applies to one transfer that exceeds the base plan limit and is consumed when that transfer is accepted. Unless the purchase screen expressly states otherwise, an add-on does not replace a plan, create permanent storage, or raise unrelated limits.

Any archival or long-term product will state its capacity, committed term, retrieval delay, included retrievals, and additional charges at checkout. Marketing words such as “Forever” do not promise that FileVoyage or any provider will operate eternally; the specific paid retention commitment displayed at purchase controls.

6. Prices, subscriptions, and payment

Prices are shown in United States dollars unless stated otherwise and may exclude applicable taxes or payment-provider charges. Paid subscriptions renew for the billing period shown at checkout until canceled. You authorize our payment provider to charge the selected price and applicable taxes. We do not store full card numbers or banking credentials.

You may cancel a subscription before renewal; access to paid features normally continues through the paid period. Except where law requires otherwise or the checkout terms expressly provide a refund, consumed credits or passes, completed delivery, and partially used billing periods are non-refundable. We may correct obvious pricing errors before fulfillment and will offer cancellation or a refund if we cannot honor the displayed transaction.

7. Expiration, archival, and deletion

FileVoyage is not your only backup. Keep an independent copy of every file. A link stops granting new authorizations when its duration or limit ends, but expiration does not guarantee immediate physical erasure. Files and metadata may remain in restricted systems for operational deletion, security, legal compliance, abuse prevention, backup, or dispute resolution as described in the Privacy Policy.

Archived files may be offline and require a restoration request before download. The retrieval time shown for an archival product is an estimate, not a guarantee. If FileVoyage discontinues a paid long-term product, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to provide notice and an export opportunity or another remedy appropriate to the unperformed portion of the commitment.

8. Links and security

Anyone who obtains a valid link may be able to access the file. Share links only with intended recipients and use separate encryption before uploading highly sensitive content. FileVoyage uses reasonable safeguards but does not provide end-to-end encryption and cannot guarantee that a link or file will never be intercepted, copied, corrupted, or accessed without authorization.

9. Moderation, suspension, and termination

We may block a file or link, limit access, suspend or terminate an account, preserve evidence, or cooperate with authorities when reasonably necessary to address abuse, security risks, nonpayment, legal duties, or a violation of these Terms. When practical and lawful, we will provide notice and an opportunity to correct the issue. You may stop using the service at any time.

10. Service availability and disclaimers

We may maintain, improve, or change FileVoyage and do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. To the maximum extent allowed by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or permanent availability. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot legally be excluded.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Aliencat Software will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, business, or opportunity arising from FileVoyage. Our aggregate liability relating to a paid service will not exceed the amount you paid FileVoyage for that service during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits do not apply where prohibited by law or to liability that cannot legally be limited.

12. FileVoyage property

FileVoyage, its software, interface, brand, and original site content are owned by Aliencat Software or its licensors. These Terms do not grant you ownership of them. You may not copy, reverse engineer, sell, or create derivative works from protected service elements except as allowed by law or written permission.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Costa Rica, without overriding mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. Before filing a claim, you and FileVoyage agree to try in good faith to resolve it by written notice. Courts or authorities with mandatory jurisdiction remain available.

14. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms for legal, security, technical, or service changes. We will publish the revised version and update the date above. If a change materially affects a paid service, we will seek to give reasonable advance notice when practical. Changes do not retroactively reduce a fixed paid commitment unless required by law or accepted by you.
